Blue Shadows to Perform at Library

SEYMOUR – Another season of song and luscious desserts begins June 9.

That’s when Summer Sounds & Sweets presents the first of three musical evenings at the Williams Family Seymour Branch Library with the popular Blue Shadows group.

The three experienced musicians of the Blue Shadows first met at a jam session at Rocky Branch Community Center in Blount County. They have performed together at venues like the Shannondale facilities in Knoxville and Maryville and have built a following over the years at Summer Sounds & Sweets.

They will play their Appalachian music, cowboy and fiddle tunes this year from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 9 at the library, 137 West Macon Lane, Seymour. John Richardson plays the mandolin; Lon Spurgeon, guitar and fiddle, and Jeff Nelson, guitar and banjo. All three supply the vocals. The program is free and open to the public.

Summer Sounds & Sweets evenings are sponsored by Friends of Seymour Library, whose members provide beverages and home-made desserts to be enjoyed as the audience listens to the music. Funds raised from the sale of refreshments support various needs and programs offered at the library. The Friends has recently supplied blackout curtains for the meeting room. The group also supports the popular Summer Reading Program, gives funding for children’s programs and buys books for the library as well as organizing special events.

Summer Sounds & Sweets offers three musical programs on Fridays in the summer featuring three local musical groups. This year, Brand New Box of Matches will entertain on July 7 and Steve Kirtley and New Victory Band stars Aug. 11. All programs start at 7 p.m. and all are welcome. The atmosphere is relaxed and dress is casual.
