SCPLS Libraries Host Reading with a Buddy: HABIT Ruffreading Programs – December

Kids are invited to work on basic skills during the school year with the library reading therapy partner dogs, Chrissie, Beretta, and Roxie. Beretta and Roxie visit the students at the Williams Family Seymour Branch Library while Chrissie will continue to share reading time with the kids at the King Family Library.

The three dogs love to listen quietly and patiently as students practice reading, math, and/or vocabulary skills. Students can read with Chrissie, Beretta, and Roxie while practicing their multiplication tables, and spelling words, or just chat about their day. Kids can work through words at their own speed and gain confidence in their skills.

Practice with Chrissie on Wednesdays and Fridays during the school year in the Teen Center at the SCPLS King Family Library, 408 High Street, Sevierville. The dates this month are December 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, & 20.

Beretta, Roxie, and their handler will visit the Williams Family Seymour Branch Library, 137 W. Macon Lane, in Seymour on the second and third Fridays of each month. The upcoming sessions on December 8 & 15 from 3:30-4:00 p.m. is geared towards children ages 5-10. Each young reader can read with Beretta or Roxie for 10 minutes at a time.

The programs are a partnership between the Human/Animal Bond in Tennessee (H.A.B.I.T.) and the Sevier County Public Library System (SCPLS). For more information, call 865.453.3532 (King Family Library) or 865.573.0728 (Williams Family Seymour Branch Library).
